Four Reasons kindly reached out and offered to send over a product of my choice. The brand prides itself on sustainability, so I thought it would be a great fit.

About The Brand

I hadn’t used Four Seasons products before and was intrigued by their ethos. Everything the brand stands for - vegan and cruelty free - oozes inclusivity, sustainability, and performance, what's not to like!

After scrolling through their website, I decided to choose a product that fits with the hair ‘look’ that I am going for at the moment. sleek and shiny. I'm growing my natural colour out after years of bleaching to create coloured blonde hair - I think I once had light brown hair or was that dark brown! - And would like to restore some amazing shine to my over processed hair that's been lost after years of damage while it grows.

I’ve tried my fair share of shine products as I've been on my hair growth journey, so I felt pretty qualified to test the Four Reasons Final Glam Leave in Treatment. I want my hair to look great but I also want my hair healthy and use ethical products.

Natural Ingredients

I'm looking for proteins and amino acids in products to promote healthy hair, but I really want plant based proteins to help support the condition of my hair, enhance hair strength, and develop my current shade. Amino acids strengthen hair as they are the essential building blocks of proteins which your hair is made from.

What Is Four Reasons Leave In Treatment?

  • A toning treatment and depositing conditioner in one, designed to enhance and protect and ensure hair colour stays vibrant

  • A vegan and cruelty-free formula that is gentle on hair and the environment but delivers an amazing shine

  • Part of the Four Reasons product line, known for its high-quality, plant-based ingredients

Key Features and Ingredients

Four Reasons Leave in treatment contains wheat amino acids, hydrolyzed soy protein, and hydrolyzed corn protein for added strength and nourishment. It also features cetearyl alcohol and plant-based proteins to help lock in moisture and colour.

Crucially, it's free from animal-derived ingredients and by-products making it suitable for vegans and it's 100% vegan. It promotes healthy hair with a gorgeous shine. Well, that's what they tell me.

What Benefits Do Four Reasons Claim Their Leave In Treatment Provide?

Here are the claims for this product: -

  • Enhances and protects hair colour, leaving it vibrant and healthy-looking

  • Repairs and restores damaged hair, reducing frizz and flyaways

  • Provides long-lasting hydration and nourishment to dry hair and hair that's been over-processed

Four Reasons Leave in treatment is suitable for all hair types, including coloured blonde hair, light brown hair, and curly hair. It can be used on damp hair or towel-dried hair for added convenience.

So, The Package Arrives!

On the website, the product looks like it has lots of gold sparkles in it, which is true; however, it very quickly settles at the bottom of the bottle. So unless you shake it, the glitter falls.

The Product Packaging

This made me question the point of adding glitter, especially with the tricky history mica has in the beauty industry. Anyway, the packaging is pretty good other than that.

The box is recyclable, the spray bottle is glass, and you can see there's metal hardware below the nozzle. The nozzle is plastic, but it can be recycled. So far, so good. The box it was sent in was a traditional card box, totally recyclable, nothing exciting. Overall, pretty sustainable in terms of packaging.

What's On The Label?

  • Disiloxane, Isododecane

  • Mica, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

  • Parfum (Fragrance)

  • CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide)

  • CI 77491 (Iron Oxides)

How to Use Four Reasons Leave In Treatment

The directions on the bottle state to apply evenly damp hair or towel-dried hair, so that is exactly what I did. It smells sweet, like synthetic vanilla and I certainly wouldn't describe it as a fragrance free product although to be fair, the manufacturers don't claim this. However, if you're not into sweet smells, this might not be for you, although the scent didn't linger on my hair for very long.

These types of leave-ins are notorious for making your hair greasy if you apply too much, so I gave my shorter hair a couple of spritzes and dried my hair as usual. I didn't see much of a difference, honestly. It was a little shinier, but more of an oil-on-hair way than a glossy shine way.  It makes sense as there's a high concentration of argon oil in this product.

Plus Points

A great thing about this leave-in is that the ingredient list is small, which decreases the likelihood of any unnecessary nasties and it's sulfate free. However,  I’m still not convinced of the mica.

You can also use this as a finishing spray on dry hair, so I added a little, but it didn't make much difference. And the mica doesn't show on the hair, if you were wondering. It's far too finely milled.

What Can You Use It For?

You can use it as a finishing shine after washing and styling, but I found that on my hair, there wasn't that much difference. You can also use it as a styling product on washed, towel-dried hair to add hold and texture as you style, but I didn't use the product in that way, so I can't comment.

I can imagine it would help hair that is prone to frizz and flyaways, keeping it looking smooth and sleek.

Final Thoughts (So Far!)

Ultimately, this product was slightly underwhelming for me. I like a shiny product that will give me a noticeably glossy look; this was more of a protective shine product. If your focus is all on healthy hair and less on appearance, then it might be for you. However, the brand values and commitment to sustainable packaging are something to smile about.

Do I think it needs mica? No. Do I think the synthetic vanilla could be swapped out? Yes.
For £29.95, I have products at cheaper price points that do better, although the brand ethics are admirable.

Maybe I didn't use enough product, so I wasn't seeing the full effects; it might be different for you and depend on your hair's porosity. I think you might be able to achieve the same effects with your regular conditioner or just an intensive treatment conditioner whenever your hair seems dry, as part of your hair care routine. I will try it again and update you. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Update - 04/12/23
I used the product a couple more times. The more product I used, it naturally became increasingly greasy, so I would stick to using it as more of a protective shine product.
Note: I have thicker dark brown wavy hair, so my experience will be different to those with other hair types. Pop down your hair type in the comments when you are sharing your experiences about using the product to help others.
